the poetry practice - writing your way to hope and healing
TEENTALK: WRITING IT OUT

"Everybody talks about peer pressure, but I have my own pressures. Like my parents and the things they tell me to do. Like the pressure in my own head that feels like it's gonna burst with all my thoughts and things on my mind. Sometimes, I think I am the only person who thinks the way I do, and sees things they way I see them. And that can get kind of lonely..."
—Adrianna, age 16

Workshop description

You're a teen and you've got a lot on your mind. Sometimes you hold it inside. There is just so much going on! You may have questions about your own life and the world you see around you. Maybe you're angry, fed up. Maybe you have something you want to celebrate. You're probably thinking a lot about sex. Maybe you have problems at home, in school, with your friends. This workshop speaks to all that and more. You'll be able talk and write it out. You'll look at journal keeping as a way to get out feelings. You'll read poetry that other teens have written and see what you think about that. You'll also write your own poetry and perform it out loud. Here's where you get to say what is on your mind without anyone saying you're crazy or telling you to be quiet. Come discover THE POWER OF YOUR OWN VOICE.
