the poetry practice - writing your way to hope and healing
CELEBRATING THE SENIOR SELF: THE POETRY OF LIFE

"I am not done with my changes."
—Stanley Kunitz

"Now I become myself. It's taken many years, and many places"
—May Sarton

Workshop description

Recently poet Rod McKuen declared that he did not like the word, "Senior Citizen." Instead he offered this term, "SEASONED CITIZEN." If "variety is the spice of life," then the variety of all your many years of experience deserves celebration. In this group, we will look at poems that explore who we are, who we've been and whom we still want to be. We'll take a humorous approach to aging, reminisce about our lives, and find hope for the future. You'll do some simple writing, listen to music, share photographs and have plenty of animated group discussion. Come celebrate yourself!
