the poetry practice - writing your way to hope and healing
LIFELINES BEREAVMENT GROUP: POETRY AS A WAY THROUGH LOSS

"Give sorrow words;
the grief that does not speak"
—Shakespeare

Workshop description

There is no time frame for grieving. This workshop is for you if you have been through at least one year of mourning for a loved one. What does it feel like to be at this moment in time? Do others have expectations of where you should be? Do you have them of yourself? How do you feel and how can you heal? While this is an intensely personal time, people in bereavement groups form special bonds of understanding because of the similarities they share. There are a great many poems and other writings that explore universal feelings of loss that you may not as yet been able to express. Also important are poems that speak of hope. Through simple writing exercises in response to our readings, you will release the feelings you may be holding inside, and find new ways to access peace and well being.
